It’s highly unlikely. We use an all vegetable dye, which minimizes irritation. However, it’s our policy to have you do a patch test 24-48 hours before your first application, just to make sure you have no allergies to the dye.

Eyebrow tinting works on skin types, skin tones, and hair colors. If you’re trying to tint grey or white hair though, the process is a little trickier. “Make sure you go to someone that knows how to tint eyebrows well and does it often,” says Tummala. “Grey hair is more resistant and tends to be stubborn, so you might need to adjust the process a bit.”

An eyebrow tint is a semi-permanent dye that darkens and defines your brow hairs (even those tiny, hard-to-see hairs that you might not even know are there) that can last up to six weeks before fading. The tint shade is completely customized, and once you discuss what you’re looking for with your brow technician, they’ll mix the dye to match your coloring (which usually ends up being the same shade as your natural hair color, or half a shade to a full shade darker). It only takes five to ten minutes for the dye to work, before the technician (or you, at home) wipes it off, leaving you with instantly bolder, fuller-looking brows.

Keep in mind that everyone’s hair reacts to the dye a bit differently and grows at a slightly different rate, says Vincent, so you likely won’t know how long your brow tint will last until you try one.
